WELCOME TO POWERS MUSEUM ONLINE
The Powers Museum serves Carthage, Missouri, and its visitors, as a local history museum with a variety of programming and rotating exhibits. Even before the museum building opened in 1988, we were participating in local events such as the Maple Leaf Festival displaying quilts and items from our collections in a store building on the Carthage Square.
Museum Closed for 2016 Season. Access to Research Library available by advance appointment only starting January 10, 2017.
Museum is closed to public during winter in order to build the 2017 exhibit, do annual work projects and catch up on collection/archival processing. March 28, 2017 - Carthage's 175th Anniversary -- will be our opening day. Watch for more details.
RESEARCH NOTE: Items shelved on bookcases in reference library corner within meeting room are available for walk-in use during regular museum hours (mostly limited to Carthage High School yearbooks, Carthage City Directories, and other titles related to Carthage and Jasper County, Missouri). Advance appointments are required for access to all archival materials including vertical files and Library of Congress veterans interviews and for access to artifacts in storage. Call email or write during winter for further information on fees and other requirements. Research access is available during our non-public season but there may be black-out periods due to non-availability of volunteers to assist researchers.
