Copyright, Reproduction Rights, Web Links and Other Restrictions

The contributing partners of the "Riches from the Earth" on-line exhibit project offer broad public access to its website as a contribution to education and scholarship. However, some materials presented here may be protected by U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.) and/or by copyright or neighboring-rights laws of other nations. Also, the reproduction of some materials may be restricted by the various institutions owning the materials and/or by terms of gift agreements, donor restrictions, privacy and publicity rights, licensing and trademarks as indicated in individual gift documents held by the various project partners. Anyone wishing to reproduce text, images, documents or other materials from the "Riches from the Earth" website must contact the appropriate project partner owning the item to discuss permission and reproduction terms.

The nature of historical archival collections means copyright or other information about restrictions may be difficult or even impossible to determine. Whenever possible, contributing partners will provide information about copyright owners and other restrictions from their catalog records, finding aids, illustration captions, and other texts that accompany specific collections. Such information is provided as a service to researchers in determining the appropriate use of an item, but copyright status determination ultimately rests with the researcher.

Contributing project partners may or may not own rights to material in their collections. However, some partners do charge permission fees for use of their material and can give or deny permission to print, publish or otherwise distribute material in their collections. It is the patron's/viewer's obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when printing, publishing or otherwise distributing images, documents, text and other materials found in the "Riches from the Earth" on-line exhibit/website.

Anyone wishing to link to this website or individual photographs or documents within the exhibit must seek permission from the "Riches from the Earth" project director before doing so. All links must be credited appropriately.

Any patrons/viewers who feel there are possible copyright or privacy infringements with materials contained in the "Riches from the Earth" website, should contact the project director in writing at the address below. If emailing, please provide name, address and telephone number for identification purposes.

Remember, while most of this website's images and documents are in the public domain, partners may retain reproduction and/or copying rights for their images regardless of use (commercial or non-commercial). These rights will be noted on individual images/documents throughout this exhibit on their catalog page (use Item Details button to return to catalog page). Please respect these rights and make appropriate contacts with collection owners. In particular, all images owned by the Western Historical Manuscript Collection/Rolla and the Joplin Museum Complex, require permission for any replication and use of images.

All original text presented in image descriptions, catalog page field descriptions and exhibit introduction pages may be used for review and educational purposes if properly cited. Any commercial use of any website text is prohibited unless permission is sought from Project Director and author(s).
