Powers Museum's Veterans History Project in cooperation with Library of Congress |

|
The Powers Museum continues to be an official partner in the Veterans History Project sponsored by the Library of Congress. To date, the museum staff and various student and adult volunteers have completed over 230 veteran's interviews since November 2005. (For pdf file of a Library of Congress Veterans History Project Brochure, click here.)
All the Veteran stories are impressive and moving. These men and women have served from the Aleutians to the South Pacific, in Korea and Japan, in the jungles of Vietnam to the fields of Europe, on the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, at sea and in the air as well as in hospitals and other military installations worldwide. Some were entrusted with training the troops at home while others went into the factories and made the military equipment.
If you know of a local veteran we should contact for an interview, please call 417-237-0456 or email the Powers Museum at powersmuseum@att.net. You may also correspond with us at Powers Museum, PO Box 593, Carthage, MO 64836. (Email or USPS mail is suggested during winter months.) Also, the museum is looking for volunteers to record and process veteran's stories (per prepared questions provided by the Library of Congress). Again in 2010-11, Mrs. Jeanne Sneddon's 9th graders at Carthage High School will be participating in this project for the fourth year in a row and we thank them for their assistance. The museum also needs an additional volunteer or two to do catch-up work and entering basic interviewee information into the museum's collection management software. Call or email the museum if you are interested in assisting.
