2010-11 Display or Conservation Schedule for the Courthouse Quilts

It is not anticipated that either quilt will be on display in 2011. If one or the other quilt is out for temporary display due to project work or a special event, we will post news of the display here. (See third paragraph below for info on how to arrange a "research" showing of the quilts.)

As many of you know, light is especially harmful to textiles and display exposure to the quilts must be limited. When not on display, these quilts are stored rolled on a special quilt storage rack in our collection storage wing.  However, when not on display, the 1895 quilt can be see at one of two online locations:

The Quilt Index inclusion of the 1895 quilt.

Powers Museum Flickr set of 1895 quilt blocks.

Should you be visiting the Powers Museum at a time when the quilts are not on display and you would like to see them to view family names, please call 417-237-0456 or email powersmuseum@att.net well in advance of your visit to make arrangements to have the quilts brought out for a consultation session with the museum's Director/Curator.  An appointment is necessary, in part, to make a suitable flat display surface big enough for the quilts which is not always available in the museum's meeting room/reference library.

For more information on the proper care and display of quilts as well as other historic textitles, please consult this link -- Basic Tips for Quilt Care.
