Carthage, Missouri Women in History (2006 Exhibit now CLOSED)

In honor of Women's History Month 2006, the Powers Museum presented a mini-display on women's suffrage and selected women of history from the local community who were active in the campaign for female suffrage and/or politics.

At the same time, the museum began looking for information on Rev. Lucy B. Lindsey, first ordained female minister of the Christian Church (at least first in Missouri) in 1895. We would like to find a photograph of this woman if possible. She was active in WCTU and YWCA work as well as possibly Chautauqua programs, but we do not know if she ever pastored a church. Please call 417-237-0456 or or email powersmuseum@att.net if you know anything about Rev. Lindsey.

Do you know who these women are?
