Chapters in the book include the courthouse square, schools, churches, leisure activities, industries and other subjects. Most images in the book predate 1940. The earliest photograph used was a carte-de-viste of George Rader, first merchant to arrive in Carthage after the Civil War. Other early views include stereograph images of the square and Carthage's first library from the 1870s.

Expanded Index for book (only two pages were allowed in original publication).

Book Updates since publishing in 2001.
